Feeding the neighbourhood
Feeding the neighbourhood before the Yankees were a team and before subways were running. Celebrating its 11th anniversary the year Grand Central Terminal opened its doors. It has seen the population go from 3.5 to over 8 million and has watched the neighbourhood change dramatically.
Glaser’s Bake Shop has stood the test of time, in the same location, on 1st and 87th, since the day it opened on April 2, 1902.
Time traveling
When you walk in you feel like you’re time traveling. The decor hasn’t changed much except for a few modern conveniences. You can imagine that the smells of baked goods that pull you in are the same that pulled in the hooped skirt crowd back in the day.
Glaser’s Bake Shop
This week Glaser’s Bake Shop marked its 110th anniversary, still in the same family, still making unpretentious baked goods.
Manhattan 2002
We’re happy to have discovered it on one of our first exploratory walks when we moved to Manhattan in 2002. From the moment we tasted those legendary brownies to our teary goodbye party in 2007.

I love these old NYC establishments. I’m a sucker for Veniero’s cheesecake – they’ve been turning out some of lower Manhattan’s best pastries since 1894. It’s always my go-to shop when it’s my turn to bring the dessert!

Veniero’s is awesome, I hope all these old places stick around.

Wow it’s so nice to see places like this survive.

It really is, they are more and more rare. People need to get back to the mom and pop stores. They’re so much more fulfilling than those other places 🙂
