This is a sponsored post, although the views in this post are not our own, we feel strongly about #5 and #8.
1. Select a destination that’s easy for you.
Though it’s tempting to choose the most off-the-beaten-path journey you can find, try to stick to relatively laid-back spots if you suffer from pre-travel nerves. You won’t have to worry about language barriers, tricky connections or dangerous political situations, and you can soothe your anxieties for the next time around.
2. Sort the details as early as possible.
Don’t wait until the last minute to track down flights, book hotels, renew your passport or purchase travel insurance. Finalizing your plans early will give you less to fret about as you get closer to your departure date. Plus, you’ll likely score lower prices on certain destinations by booking well in advance.
3. Don’t freak out about what to pack.
Sure, it’s important to learn the art of packing light and to keep an eye on what you’re tossing in that tote, but try not to stress about every little thing you may or may not need. Ultimately, the only items you can’t travel without are your passport, tickets, money and credit cards. For the most part, everything else — including clothing — can be purchased on the go. You wouldn’t want to leave everything at home, but it’s comforting to know that you could without incurring major consequences.
4. Don’t go solo (yet).
There’s a lot to be said for traveling alone, but stick to the buddy system if you’re battling pre-trip jitters. While jetting off by yourself has its own set of perks, it can be intimidating to experience a new destination all by your lonesome. Use this trip as a warm up for the days when you feel comfy heading out solo.
5. Don’t get overambitious.
We’re all guilty of this: cramming an agenda so full of activities that you have no room for a quick coffee let alone any deviation. Leaving a little wiggle room in your plans will allow you to rest more easily about the possibility of things going wrong. By all means, hit those can’t-miss sights you’ve been dreaming about for years, but don’t schedule yourself so tightly that you’ll careen into a panic if your flight is delayed.
6. Know what a normal flight feels and sounds like.
Terrified of flying? You’re not alone. Though well-meaning pals will likely throw the “you’re more likely to die in a car crash than a plane crash” adage at you, the best way to combat flight fear is to know what sounds to expect. Check out this fantastic guide, and you’ll be on your way to jetting off without a care in the world.
7. Watch videos, tune into programs or read about your destination.
Whether you’re cozying up to an episode of “No Reservations” or browsing online videos taken by travelers like you, sneaking a peek at the place you’ll be visiting is a great way to decrease nervousness and increase excitement. Search for city tours on YouTube, and you might even find a video that walks you through an entire section of your destination.
8. Take a deep breath. Repeat.
Even the world’s most seasoned travelers get those familiar butterflies in their stomachs before a trip. Breathe deeply, and remember that traveling is an incredible way to broaden your horizons. If you go with a positive outlook, you’ll be absolutely fine.

I like the advice of going slow, take your time, plan (but don’t over plan) – leave the porch, for sure, that’s the key but you don’t have to book the rtw trip immediately.
